The Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) is an independent federal agency charged with keeping watch over the commercial nuclear power industry. The NRC regulates commercial nuclear power plants and other uses of nuclear materials, such as in nuclear medicine, through licensing, inspection, and enforcement of its requirements.   A number of technological and procedural changes have been implemented by industry and the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) to considerably reduce the risk of a meltdown since the incident.
